Yew bonsai (Taxus baccata) with deadwood, about 20 years

A European yew about twenty years old, rebuilt from a formal upright in 2024: new trunk line, deadwood left for you to carve. Ready for a bonsai pot now; yew buds back on old wood, so the design can still move. One tree, photographed as it ships.

The story of this tree

I bought this yew as a rather dull formal upright. In autumn 2024 I stripped the old trunk completely and repotted it in a bigger pot, to build a new trunk out of the last remaining branch. Two years later the structure is there: a live trunk with movement next to the stripped wood of the old one.

The deadwood has not been carved or treated. I left it that way so the new owner decides its shape.

What I would do next

It can go into a bonsai pot already and be refined step by step. The deadwood is waiting to be bent and carved. Yew buds back on old wood, so the design can still move a lot.

The courier was late, but the plant is healthy, thanks also to the excellent packaging. A promising larch with a good line and already good foliage. A vaguely literati style that can be accentuated. It deserves a proper pot. Very satisfied.

FAQs

How is a specimen shipped?
In its pot, with the soil secured and the tree braced inside a rigid box. Delivery across the EU is included in the price. We ship Monday to Wednesday so the tree never spends a weekend in a depot. You can also collect it at our nursery in Merate.
Yes. Every specimen is photographed after its last major styling work and you receive that tree, in that pot. If anything changes before it ships (a branch removed, a repot), we update the photos first.
Any time of year. In the hottest weeks of summer we may hold a shipment for a few days. A tree arriving in winter should go straight to a sheltered spot outdoors, not into a heated room.
Yes, that is the idea. It has not been carved or treated, so the shape is yours to decide. Keep it out of the water stream when you water.
All parts except the red flesh of the berry are toxic if eaten. Handling is safe; wash your hands after pruning and keep it away from children and pets.
