The story of this tree

Collected from the wild and in training for three years. A swollen, twisting trunk shaped by years of growing on its own, 13 cm tall without the pot in a 10 cm terracotta pot. Photographed on 13 October 2026, as it ships.

Ligustrum vulgare, the wild privet, grows in hedgerows across Europe and is one of the most tolerant species for bonsai: it accepts full sun or partial shade, forgives watering mistakes, buds back anywhere on old wood and can be pruned through the whole growing season. Plants collected from the wild bring thick, twisted trunks that a nursery plant takes decades to build. Semi-evergreen, with white, wonderfully scented flowers in summer and black berries in autumn. Our privet care guide covers the year.

The courier was late, but the plant is healthy, thanks also to the excellent packaging. A promising larch with a good line and already good foliage. A vaguely literati style that can be accentuated. It deserves a proper pot. Very satisfied.

FAQs

How is a specimen shipped?

In its pot, with the soil secured and the tree braced inside a rigid box. Delivery across the EU is included in the price. We ship Monday to Wednesday so the tree never spends a weekend in a depot. You can also collect it at our nursery in Merate.

Is this the exact tree I will receive?

Yes. Every specimen is photographed after its last major styling work and you receive that tree, in that pot. If anything changes before it ships (a branch removed, a repot), we update the photos first.

When is the best time to receive it?

Any time of year. In the hottest weeks of summer we may hold a shipment for a few days. A tree arriving in winter should go straight to a sheltered spot outdoors, not into a heated room.

Is it evergreen?

Semi-evergreen: it keeps part of its leaves in a mild winter and drops more in a cold one.

Is it hardy?

Yes, it stays outdoors all year.
